Subscribers, lists and segments
Manage lists, custom fields, segments, imports and subscriber statuses.
Your audience lives in lists, and each list carries its own sender settings: the from-name, the sending address and the double opt-in choice for new signups. Most stores run fine with one main list; use separate lists when audiences genuinely differ, for example customers versus wholesale partners.
Segments are saved filters on top of your audience: "placed an order in the last 90 days", "tagged VIP", "viewed a product this week but has not bought". They update themselves as behaviour changes, show live counts while you build them, and work everywhere an audience can be picked - campaigns, automations and exports alike. With a connected store, purchase behaviour and product views become segment criteria too.
Every contact has a status (active, pending, unsubscribed, bounced or complained), and statuses decide deliverability: unsubscribed and suppressed contacts are never emailed and never count toward your bill. The guides below cover the mechanics, from imports and custom fields to what each status means in practice.

Lists and sender settings →Create email lists, set the default sender name and address per list, manage custom fields and understand how sender fallbacks work across sends.
Segments →Build dynamic segments with field, engagement and order criteria plus time windows, and use them as campaign audiences and automation filters.
Subscriber statuses →Active, pending, unsubscribed, blacklisted and complained: what each status means, how statuses change automatically and what you should never do.
